Questions & Answers

1. What is the VakaNet Media Portal?

The VakaNet Media Portal is an online platform operated by VakaNet Limited to help local Cook Islands content providers, broadcasters, organisations, and community groups make their live channels and media streams available online.

2. How do I watch channels on the Media Portal?

Simply visit the Media Portal, select the channel you would like to watch, and click the watch button. The portal can be accessed from a smart TV, mobile phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer using a modern web browser.

3. Do I need to install an app?

No app is required. The Media Portal is browser-based, so you can watch directly from the website on supported devices. For the best experience, make sure your device, browser, and Internet connection are working properly.

4. Do I need to be a VakaNet customer to watch?

The Media Portal is best experienced on a VakaNet connection. During the current demonstration period, access may also be temporarily available to customers of other Cook Islands Internet providers.

In the future, some channels, streams, or services may be limited to VakaNet customers or approved networks.

5. Will watching channels use my Internet data?

Yes. Watching live TV and online video content uses Internet data. The amount of data used depends on the video quality, the stream format, and how long you watch.

If you are using an Internet service with a monthly data cap or allowance, please be careful. Online video streaming can quickly consume large amounts of data and may reduce or deplete your available monthly data allowance.

VakaNet broadband customers do not need to worry about data caps, as VakaNet residential and business broadband plans include unlimited data, subject to our Fair Usage Policy.

6. Why does the video buffer, freeze, or stop playing?

Streaming quality can depend on your Internet connection, Wi-Fi signal, device performance, browser compatibility, network congestion, and the availability or quality of the original stream supplied by the content provider.

If you experience issues, try refreshing the page, checking your Wi-Fi signal, using another browser, or reconnecting to a stronger Internet connection.

7. Who is responsible for the channel content?

Each channel is provided and managed by its own content provider. VakaNet operates the Media Portal and provides the technical delivery platform, but does not create, edit, review, control, or endorse third-party content unless expressly stated otherwise.

8. Who should I contact about a programme, broadcast, copyright issue, or complaint?

Questions, concerns, complaints, copyright notices, correction requests, or other matters relating to a specific channel or programme should be directed to the relevant content provider responsible for that channel. Please refer to the DISCLAIMER section to learn more.

Where available, the content provider's name, website, and contact details are displayed below the relevant channel listing.

9. How can my organisation join the Media Portal?

Local broadcasters, churches, schools, sports organisations, community groups, businesses, government agencies, and other content providers are welcome to contact VakaNet to discuss joining the Media Portal.

We can help you understand the technical requirements and options for making your channel or live stream available online.

Email us on info@vakanet.com for more details.

10. What equipment do I need to provide a channel or stream?

Requirements depend on the type of content you want to provide. In many cases, a content provider may need a camera, audio source, Internet connection, streaming software or encoder, and the necessary rights or permissions to broadcast the content.

VakaNet can provide general guidance on technical setup, but each content provider remains responsible for their own content, licensing, permissions, and broadcast arrangements.

11. Can I watch the Media Portal outside the Cook Islands?

Some streams may only be available within the Cook Islands or through approved networks. Access may be restricted based on Internet provider, geographic location, roaming status, VPN usage, proxy services, or other technical factors.

12. Is streaming availability guaranteed?

No. The Media Portal is provided on an "as available" and "as is" basis. Streams may be interrupted, delayed, changed, suspended, or withdrawn due to technical issues, network conditions, maintenance, licensing restrictions, provider decisions, or other circumstances beyond VakaNet's reasonable control.

13. How do I contact VakaNet about the Media Portal?

For enquiries relating to the content of a specific channel, please contact the relevant content provider directly using the details displayed below that channel listing.
